There’s nothing quite like a Scottish road trip with good friends, two trusty campervans, and the open road ahead. We recently set off on a 7-day adventure with Turas Campers Edinburgh, heading into the heart of the Highlands and beyond. With one campervan each, we had the perfect balance of freedom and shared experiences. Here’s what we discovered on our unforgettable journey through Glencoe, Inveraray, and the magical Isle of Skye.

Day 1: Setting Off from Edinburgh
After collecting our two fully equipped campervans from Turas Campers in Edinburgh, we stocked up on local snacks and coffee before heading north. The sense of excitement was high – two vans, four friends, and endless possibilities.
We took the scenic route through Callander and the Trossachs, stopping for a lochside picnic before continuing to Glencoe. By evening, we were parked up at a campsite with mountain views, sharing stories over dinner and soaking in the dramatic Highland scenery.
Day 2: Exploring Glencoe’s Wild Beauty
Glencoe didn’t disappoint. We spent the day hiking the Lost Valley trail, marvelling at the towering peaks and haunting beauty of the glen. In the afternoon, we visited the Glencoe Visitor Centre, learning more about the area's volcanic origins and its tragic history.
That night, we cooked a hearty meal back at the vans and watched the sunset paint the mountains gold. There’s something magical about wild landscapes and the comfort of a campervan just steps away.
Day 3: Glen Etive & road trip to Inveraray
No Highland trip is complete without a detour down the single-track road to Glen Etive, famous for its winding river and stags. After a short hike and plenty of photos, we continued on to Inveraray, nestled on the shores of Loch Fyne.
We visited the impressive Inveraray Castle, explored the old jail, and treated ourselves to fresh seafood at a local inn. The nearby campsite gave us easy access to the loch – ideal for an evening paddle and stargazing session.
Day 4: From Lochs to the Sea – Heading to Skye
After breakfast, we hit the road west, driving past Loch Awe and through Fort William. The scenery kept getting better as we neared the Skye Bridge, where mist rolled in and out of the hills like a dream.
We found a quiet spot to park up near Broadford, with views across the Sound of Sleat. After a long drive, we gathered round the firepit and toasted to island adventures ahead.
Day 5: Discovering the Isle of Skye
Skye was spectacular. We packed in the sights: Fairy Pools, The Quiraing, and a breezy walk to the Neist Point Lighthouse. The freedom of having two campervans meant we could split up at times – some of us opted for a photography mission while others relaxed by the shore.
At night, we regrouped at a friendly campsite near Portree, swapping stories over a dram of whisky and local cheese.
Day 6: More Skye Magic & Return to the Mainland
We spent a slow morning exploring Portree, picking up souvenirs and coffee from the colourful harbour. After lunch, it was time to head back over the bridge. Rather than rush, we took the scenic route via Eilean Donan Castle, where we stopped for a walk and photos.
Our last campsite stop was near Fort Augustus, right at the southern tip of Loch Ness. We didn’t spot the monster – but the peaceful lochside views were a perfect send-off.
Day 7: Back to Edinburgh – and Already Planning the Next Trip
After a final van breakfast, we made the journey back to Edinburgh. Dropping off our campervans was easy – the Turas team greeted us with a smile and even helped us plan our next route.
This trip was more than a holiday – it was a week of connection, freedom, and adventure. Having two campervans gave us flexibility and independence, while still making memories together each day. We’re already dreaming of our next Turas Campers getaway – maybe the North Coast 500 or the Cairngorms next time?
