At Turas Campers Edinburgh, we’re dedicated to protecting Scotland's stunning landscapes and natural heritage. Since 2019, we’ve partnered with Trees for Life to help restore Scotland’s forests, giving customers the option to plant two trees per week of campervan hire, which we match. This initiative supports the Caledonian Forrest restoration efforts and allows us to give back to the environment as we offer our campervans for travel and adventure across Scotland.
Secondly we are also supporting Scottish Wildlife Trust, which helps fund conservation projects to protect and restore Scotland’s wildlife, from monitoring osprey breeding sites to preserving our native red squirrels.

Most guests drive an estimated 600 miles per week, which produces roughly 0.393 tonnes (393 kg) of CO₂. Offsetting this would require planting about 2-4 trees in Scotland, though the exact number varies depending on tree species, soil, climate, and how long the trees are left to grow.
Here’s how it works:

Once mature, a single tree can absorb around 10 kg of CO₂ per year.

Over a lifespan of approximately 40 years, a tree can sequester between 250–500 kg of CO₂.
So, planting 2-4 trees should effectively offset the CO₂ from a week’s travel. At Turas Campers Edinburgh, we partner with Trees for Life to plant trees right here in Scotland. For every tree you choose to plant, we will match it, doubling the impact of your contribution. You can add your trees during the booking process.
While we recognise that diesel campervans impact the environment, we’re committed to minimising our footprint wherever possible and supporting sustainable travel solutions. These solutions help us reduce the environmental impact of our services and ensure we’re providing a cleaner, greener experience for our customers.
Additionally, we’re committed to continuously improving our practices to make eco-conscious travel easy and enjoyable. We are hoping to introduce electric campervans as soon as possible. We encourage our customers to explore Scotland responsibly, minimising waste and respecting local wildlife and habitats.

What do we do
Cleaning
We choose sustainable cleaning products that are gentle on the environment, including eco-friendly laundry solutions from Smol, washing products from Ecover, and biodegradable sponges and cloths. Vans come with reusable shopping bags.
Trees for Life
We encourage our guests to offset their carbon footprint by planting native Trees with the charity Trees for Life. We will match any number of trees you want to plant. Want to also offset your plane or train journey to Scotland? We will also match this and double the impact!
Responsible Camping
We encourage you to stay on campsites, travel slow, follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and support sustainable local businesses on the road. Find more information on sustainable tourism in Scotland here on the Visit Scotland website
Leave no trace
Keep Scotland Beautiful reports that 50 tonnes of litter is abandoned on Scotland’s roadsides each month, much of which includes cans, bottles, cups, crisp packets, and food wrappers, tubs and boxes. Read more on the NC500 website about sustainable camper travel.
