Frequently Asked Questions

​How do I book a campervan?
You can book a campervan directly through our website by selecting your dates and preferred vehicle. Alternatively, you can contact us via phone or email, and we will assist you with the booking process. Book online here.

​

What documents do I need to rent a campervan?
You’ll need a valid driving license, 3 proofs of address, and a form of photo ID (such as a passport). For UK drivers we will do an DVLA check for your points, for international drivers there are some insurance questions to answer.

​

How do I get to your location?

We are very conveniently located near Murrayfield Stadium. You can travel from the airport with the Airport Bus 100 or the Airport Express, stop at Murrayfield. You will just need to walk up the road 150m. This takes about 18 minutes in total.

From the city centre you can travel with bus 31,12,26 from Waverly Station or take the tramline to Murrayfield Stadium. This takes about 15 minutes.

You can walk from Haymarket Station, this takes about 15 minutes.

We are arriving before the pick up time, can we leave our luggage with you?

Yes you can! We are located on the airport bus line, so you can come and drop off you luggage and explore Edinburgh in the meantime.

Are there age restrictions for renting a campervan?
Yes, renters must be between 30 and 79 to rent Harris and 23 and 79 to rent Islay.

​

Is insurance included in the rental cost?
Yes, our rental prices include fully comprehensive insurance for one driver. Additional drivers can be added for an extra fee. Please see our full T&C's here.

What’s the mileage policy?
We offer unlimited mileage for rentals.

​

What is the deposit on the Campervans?

For both  campervans there is a £1500 deposit. This will be taken by a pre-authorisation hold on your credit card, so no money will actually leave your account. We will take this pre-authorisation on pick up. You will need a valid credit card and need to know your code. Sorry we don't take AMEX.

Can I bring my pet with me?
Absolutely! Islay pet-friendly and welcome your four-legged friends. Please let us know in advance, as a small cleaning fee applies for pets.

What is the fuel policy?
Our campervans are provided with a full tank of fuel and must be returned full. If not, a refueling charge will be applied.

 

Can I travel outside of Scotland?
Yes, you are free to explore the mainland UK (Scotland, England, Wales) with our campervans. However, please let us know if you plan to travel outside Scotland.

What is included in the campervan?
All our campervans come fully equipped with a double duvet and pillows, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery for 4 people, a gas stove, and two camping chairs and a table. There might be slight differences between each campervan.

​

Where can I park the campervan overnight?
Scotland has many campsites and campervan-friendly locations. We recommend using designated campsites for safety and comfort. Wild camping is allowed in some areas, but please follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. You can read more about camping in Scotland in our blog post here.

What should I do if I break down?
Each campervan comes with 24/7 roadside assistance. If you experience any issues, contact the number provided in your rental agreement, and help will be on the way. You can of course also always contact us directly and we will help you.

​

Is there a toilet on board

No, these type of campervans don't have any toilets on board. We can offer you a "toilet bucket" if you are worried about this.

​

Can I travel to the Scottish islands

Yes of course you can! Just make sure you book in advance for certain routes on the Calmac.com website. You should book a campervan under 5m.

 

Are there any hidden fees?
We believe in transparency. The rental price includes insurance, equipment, and breakdown cover. Additional charges only apply for optional extras, such as additional drivers, pet cleaning fees, or linen sets. You can find the full list of extra's here.

 

Can I return or pick up the campervan early or later?
Yes, when there are not other booking before or after you we offer a flexible pick-up and drop-off service. Please notify us in advance so we can provide detailed instructions.

 

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that plans can change. More than 60 days before rental start date: Booking Deposit (which is 10% of the total cost) is not refundable but the remaining 90% of the total cost is refundable. Within 60 days of rental start date: 100% of total hire charge is not refundable. In the event of cancellation, booking deposits are not transferable to alternative hire dates.  Please ensure you have your own holiday insurance in place to cover the costs if for any reason you have to cancel your reservation

How do I pay for my rental?

You pay 10% of the total cost when you choose your preferred dates. We will then email you a copy of the final invoice for the remaining 90% balance and we ask that this is paid at least 45 days before you arrive. We prefer to be paid by bank transfer (for the final 90%) but we will try to accommodate you if this is problematic for you.

Can I rent additional equipment?
Yes, we offer a range of extras, including bike racks, GPS, portable BBQs, and child seats. You can add these during the booking process. You can find the full list of extra's
